  Best Diet for Acid Reflux

One of the most common conditions anyone can deal with in their life is acid reflux. Acid reflux can be a serious problem that affects how effective you live your life.

If you're diagnosed with acid reflux then chances are you'll be prescribed a drug known as proton pump inhibitors or PPI. These medications are supposed to help get rid of acid reflux and GERD symptoms by reducing the amount of stomach acid you have. When your stomach acid is reduced there is a less chance of you experiencing symptoms of acid reflux.

The problem with these medications for acid reflux is that they can cause various side effects if taken for a long period of time. Other than the potential long term effects of taking proton pump inhibitors these medications can be very costly. With that being said, it may make more sense to treat acid reflux with your diet rather than risky PPIs.

Acid Reflux Diet

According to My GERD and Reflux Cure the best diet for acid reflux will involve choosing foods that aren't known to trigger or irritate acid reflux symptoms. Eating things like fast food should be avoided at all cost to improve your condition.

Fast food and junk food contain processed ingredients that will irritate your acid reflux and make it harder for you to heal yourself. Moreover, junk and fast foods are more difficult to digest which makes them regurgitate back up into the esophagus along with stomach acid.

Other foods you should stay away from in your daily diet include:

  • Chococalte and other sweets.
  • Alcoholic beverages.
  • Onions.
  • Garlic.
  • Citrus fruits.
  • Foods that are too spicy.
  • Drinks that contain a lot of caffeine or sugar in it.
  • Fatty foods.

All these foods should be replaced with foods that are easy to digest and don't trigger your symptoms of acid reflux.

Some examples of foods that can improve your acid reflux condition include low fat cheeses like feta cheese, non acidic fruits like apples and melons, and green leafy vegetables like spinach. Along with eating more of these kinds of foods you should focus on eating smaller meal portions so that your stomach can digest them easily. Also, chewing your food slowly can make a big difference in how severe or how often you experience your acid reflux symptoms.

Another way to improve your acid reflux condition through your diet is to drink herbal teas like green tea. Replacing drinks like coffee which could trigger your condition with herbal teas like green tea will make a huge improvement on your condition. You want to drink the green tea a few times daily to improve your condition.
